1930s Mini Applique Block Swap

 

Here are some of the blocks I received in the Traditional 1930s round of this swap.

Themes and Deadlines:
This swap will be exchanged on time. All block must arrive at my house by the Prize Deadline to be eligible for prizes and by the Swap Deadline to be eligible for swapping.  I  Each round has a different theme to inspire creativity however traditional 1930s Blocks (such as Dresden Plates, butterflies, Grandmother's Flower Garden etc.) are always welcome.

Critters, Critters, Critters (things that crawl, fly, swim and walk)! 
(For example:  Puppies, Kitties, Butterflies, Birds, farm animals ...)
Prize Deadline:  April 12th,  2003
Swap Deadline: April 19th, 2003

Traditional 1930s Blocks 
(For example:  Flowers, Grandmother's Fans, Dresden Plates, Butterflies, Cats ...)
Prize Deadline:  June 20th,  2003
Swap Deadline: June  27th, 2003

Fabric:
The colors for this swap are 1930's Repro fabrics only with bleached muslin (white). No White on white will be accepted - only plain, white bleached muslin. No cream colored backgrounds.  All fabrics should be prewashed . 

Block Size:
Blocks should be 4" finished, 4.5" unfinished.

Set Information:
Each set contains six identical blocks.  Keep one for yourself and send the other 5 in to swap. 

Minimum/Maximum:
You must send in at least one set (5 identical blocks) and may send in up to 5 sets.

Prizes:
I will scan all the blocks and put them up on my website. Prizes will be awarded in the following categories:  1) Best All-around;  2) Block that Best Reflects the Swap Theme and 3) Most Original Block 4 & 5) Hostesses Choices.  Prizes will be awarded to the winners.  Fabric Attic has kindly provided an FQ for each winning quilter. 

Block Details:
You may use any APPLIQUE pattern. Make six (6) identical blocks for each set you want to swap. You may make more than one set of blocks to swap. EACH set of blocks you swap will have 6 identical blocks. If you make ADDITIONAL sets of blocks, you must use different Repro fabrics and patterns for each set of blocks. If you make more than 5 blocks the same you may get the extras back . If you were in previous rounds of the swap please try to make different blocks and use different prints if possible.

Try to make your blocks relate to the theme as much as possible - use your creativity!

NO fusible web is permitted. The applique must be handsewn. No raw edges are permitted - all edges must be turned under.  You may embellish them with embroidery thread, say if you animal needs eyes or a mouth. Please NO other embellishments.

I return blocks which do not satisfy these criteria.

Please put a label on each block you send in. The label must have your email address, name, the town, state or country where you live. DO NOT write on the actual block with any type of pen or pencil. If you use a self adhesive label put it on the back of your block just in case the sticky residue might stick to the block and ruin it.

Mailing the Blocks: 
You must include a self-addressed  envelope  large enough to return the blocks.  Place your sets of blocks in a plastic zip-lock bag before placing them in the mailing envelope.

All Canadian swappers should have there blocks in the mail at least 5 business days before the deadline and affix the same amount of postage to the return envelope that it cost you to mail it to me - please use stamps - not metred labels.

American and  International swappers for your return postage you will need to enclose either US$2 (cash or personal cheque) or the the equivalent in fabric (an FQ or FE). Please mail them 10 days before the deadline to ensure that they arrive at my house on time.
